Indulgence of A Player...

Deina

I've been seeing a lot of headlines here lately in the MMOG communities about DAoC this, and DAoC that. Nothing wrong with that all! In fact I love the publicity that it's getting! More fresh meat for me to slaughter, more players for me to worry about, more friends to make and more enemies to loathe! Over 500,000 accounts online and more to come they exclaim! One of the best Medieval RPG games out there to this day that have a sense of wonder and reality! Immerses you in the magic and a wonderful community and game play! Not taking anything word for word here, but it does sum up what most of these articles state. Now, that's just the front that is deployed for the game, the advertisement if you will for the game itself. Mythic sure should be proud to have such a wide cliental of players that would buy not only one, but two accounts for their many bots and alter egos.

But 'what' do the players think about all of this publicity and the hype? What do players actually say about the game that keeps them playing? Why do players that curse left and right, saying that there is so much wrong with the game, but they continue playing anyhow? I can't really answer that question by myself really. It's a matter of what people prefer and what they want. Well, if that's the case then, what is happening with these patch notes that are currently being put on the Pendragon Server? How come I'm reading so much ruckus about this, that, Mercs this, Shamans that, should have this, shouldn't have that? This is just the tip of the ice berg of it all. The behind the curtain stuff that really wanna makes you wonder why...

I wish I had all the answers for this, to make all the pain and suffering go away on such technical issues. But I don't. I'm just a poor lil' columnist with a small, but noticeable voice, trying to make a point. What I want to know is, why do you all play a game that is so infallibly lost in technical blurps with classes, details and what nots? Why do most of you insist on playing and wasting your time when you know for a fact that little else is being done. All the cries, moans, whining that most do on their off time, trying to make their point heard on various boards, sending feedback constantly hoping to get some positive recourse of action for your realm or class. Trying to see proof, justice and satisfaction in the end...

I won't say it's a lost cause. And I won't say that it's inevitable. But sometimes the whining just has to stop. There is more than one way to skin a cat you know. There are better ways to get your point across. How you ask? Don't ask me, I have no clue. I only play for the sheer enjoyment. I don't exude myself in the technicalities of the game for that diminishes the value of my time. I don't worry or whine about issues that have to do with how much damage I do as per say my mirror of another realm. I don't worry about how much my fire bolt will do as long as the critter dies before it gets to me. I don't worry about all that. There are others that do that part for me! And most of them do that quite well I must say. But, I guess that they do the 'feedback' because they know the game could be so much better in the end and it's something that they enjoy, as long as the change is for the better in their eyes. That's what makes them play I can only guess. However, you can't please everyone. And that's just the way the world is...

So, please, anyone that is willing to speak up, tell me why you continue playing? What makes you so much in love with the game even with the so called foul ups that are constantly popping up? What makes you continue to pay for that account to play DAoC!?
