We Want Platinum!!!
I recently went to an unnamed website and here is what I saw: DAOC Plat sale!
I clicked on Guinevere-MID and was a little shocked.
Some of you already know what I am about to say.
For those of you who don't, please, sit down.
Platinum 50 $229.99, Platinum 30 $139.99, Platinum 20 $94.99,
Platinum 10 $47.99, Platinum 5 $24.99, Platinum 2 $11.99, Platinum 1 $7.99!
Now if you still do not know what I am talking about, please allow me
to spell it out for you. The platinum that you can eventually earn in the game Dark Age of Camelot is for sale, 50 platinum for $229.99. Some of you might be laughing at me right about now, and thinking, "How come she didn't know about this before...duh!" Well, I am thinking, "Give me a break!" You can't touch, feel, hold, smell, or show off "game platinum", so why are people buying it?
I recently went online and played the game for a while. I found two players who were willing to give me their input. One person said, "Why pay for it when you can fight and earn 1000 gold that equals 1 platinum?" The other person said that they wouldn't buy it at all. (I guess three hundred dollars is a little steep.)
I questioned others and one guy told me that platinum was available on Ebay and one platinum was $3.6. As if to say, yeah, go to Ebay it is cheaper.
This still boggles my mind. Some people feel that they would rather buy a soda and candy bar than buy a fake platinum piece for a character in a game. Some people don't even know if they will be able to pay for another six months of service so that they can play their character!!! Yet, there are those that will pay.
Some would call it cheating; some might think that hard work is more of a "game challenge" and a more rewarding feeling than if you were to buy what others have worked hard for. Other questions are: How do we know what price is fair? How do you know that you are not getting jipped? How do you know what a game platinum costs?
I have to admit that when I am playing it feels like I am in another world. It feels magical and mystical at times. But I feel that selling me game platinum is like selling me a bridge in Brookland. How do you feel?
