Should a young warrior decide to forgo the Defenders and the Church, and instead turn to the way of the sword for coin, he joins up with the Guild of Shadows and chooses the life of a Mercenary. Instead of the heavy platemail and polearms of the traditional Armsman, the Mercenary instead relies on speed to avoid attacks and turn them aside, as well as developing the skill of wielding two weapons at once.
Mercenaries are the very equal of the traditional Armsman in solo play, their evade abilities make up for the lack of heavy armor. Mercenaries also do better with balanced weapons - those that use two fast ones instead of a differing pair tend to be more effective, as opposed to the normal 'bigger is better' approach favored by the slower warriors.
Like the other warrior types, Mercenaries fare well in a group, better than alone if there is a healer present. Unlike the others though, the Mercenary does even better if there is another warrior present to absorb the damage, allowing them to execute one of the damaging positional styles. Don't be fooled by the light armor, the Mercenary is a very capable warrior.
