Much like the Paladin and Thane, the Champion is primarily a fighter who also learns some helpful magics to aid him in battle. The difference between the Champion and his other-realm counterparts are that the spells he learns to uses are primarily powerful weakening spells, allowing him to sap the abilities out of his opponents even as he brings his weapons to bear.
When alone, the Champion is an excellent fighting class simply by virtue of his spells - being able to weaken his opponant means he'll do more damage and his foe will do less, giving him a distinct advantage. The addition of large weapons, parry, and heavy armors will make him even more formidable, even should the warrior in question be an Elf or Lurikeen.
The weakening spells of the Champion are just as welcome in groups as alone. By doing these while being a warrior, the Champion allows the casters and healers to concentrate on other things, making the group more efficient. In addition, as he goes up in levels the Champion will learn both Protect and Intercept, allowing him to provide much-needed protection to his weaker companions.
