The Chat Window

Below is an image of the multi-paned chat window system that DAoC uses. The main chatting section is divided into two section, the System (upper) section, and the Main (lower) section. These sections can be customized, both the color of the messages as well as the types of messages displayed. This window, as well as the division line, can also be resized, allowing you to give more room to any section you want to focus on. Another interesting thing is if you raise the transparancy to 100%, the text will be brightened, and is often readable with the chat box itself being completely transparant (though more difficult than having the box opaque).

The tabs on top of the window allow you to switch easily between different settings for the main window - which is where player-chat goes. The buttons are pre-configured with common settings, and they can be changed, but not renamed. With selective use of filters you can focus your attention on only group chat, guild chat, local chat, or any combination and more.

Above the Main window is the System window - this is where you get all messages from the game, such as damage messages, consider messages, loot messages, that sort of thing. Like the Main window, this can also be configured any way you like, message filtering, color changing, that sort of thing. There's some screenshots of both configuration screens below.
