Grouping Displays

The DAoC interface has a number of different things built in to aid people in groups, as well as aid people in trying to find groups. This is the page that will cover them all, starting with the main group interface from the Character Display menu system.

Group Window

Just over on the side you can see an active group window (Thanks to Clay, who made a great effort to log on and group with me for the minute it took to get these shots ;P). If you aren't in a group, all those different 'slots' will be blank, not even yourself will show. Once you're a part of a group, you'll see what shows in the image, with the group leader being listed on the top. Both the character name, class, and level are shown, which should help any tactical planning.

One very nice thing about this window is that it shows both the precise health and mana level of all the group members, as well as any enchantments your group memebrs may have. This can be very useful if you're one of the people responsible for making sure everyone is covered with the various buffs that your group has access to. If you look at the image, you'll see that I have several buffs on, while poor Clay only has one - if this were a normal group, I'd be able to look at this and know that I should continue to buff Clay

In case you don't want to use the various text commands, at the bottom of the group window there are several buttons that will allow you to manage your group. The Invite and Disband buttons perform the same function as the /invite and /disband commands, inviting and removing the target player into the group. There is also a button to open the mini group window, as well as the controls for the 'Find a Group' interface, which will be covered further down on the page.

The Mini Group Display

Although the group window displayed above is very useful, it's usually very impractical to use for general combat because of the rather large size. For general purpose use, you'll want to have the mini group window open and visible, and be keeping an eye on that. This is especially important for tanks and healers, so they know who to protect and who to heal. This window can only be opened if you're in a group, but once you position it on your screen it won't vanish even if you're no longer a member, letting you give it a permanant place.

Like the main group window, the mini window shows the group members health and mana. Instead of two bars though, this mini-window shows the mana level as a glowing sphere, with a bright yellow-white being completely full, and a dull gray being empty. In the window on the right, both of us are completely full, but for larger groups or groups in combat you'll see a lot more variety in mana and health levels.

Looking for Group - Looking for Members

The final window related to groups is probably one of the most interesting features of DAoC. Instead of trying to spam the entire zone with such messages as "Lv 12 Wiz LFG" and "Healer for group to kill XxxX", you'll instead be better served by clicking the "Find" button on the main group window and taking a look at the image to the right.

When you press that button, the image shown will appear, most likely with a number of different names. This interface will show players that are somewhat near you in both level and location, and are also looking for a group. In addition, the list will also show the leaders of groups that are set to be looking for a character with your skills, allowing you to join already existing groups. And if you don't see one listed, all you need to do it toggle on your "Seeking Group" button and wait for a tell.

For group leaders, as was hinted above, you can set your group to be looking for certain members, and then yse the "Find" button to get a list of any players flagged as looking for a group that match your criteria. It will also make your group show up to any individuals that match your criteria as well. And if none of that gets you the members you need, you can always use /who and try to recruit members directly.

The contact button at the botton of the window is just a shortcut to the /tell command
