Guide: Tasks

Mythic has filled Dark Age of Camelot with ways for players to ease their experience in game. One of these ways is Tasks. Similar to quests, these tasks are single step ways to gain experience much faster than camping a spawn solo. There are two types of tasks: Kill tasks and Delivery tasks. These tasks can only be done from level 1 through 19. At level 20, you will no longer be able to task your way to the next level.

Let’s begin with Delivery Tasks.

These tasks are given by any non guard NPC. In order to receive a task, target a NPC, stand close to them and type /s task. I have a macro set up (/macro task /s task) so that anytime I wish to get one all I have to do is hit that hotkey. If the NPC does not give you a task, move on to the next. Normally at least ONE NPC in town will give you a delivery task.

If they do give you a delivery task, they will also give you an item. This is the item you must deliver to another NPC in another town. When you find the recipient, simply drop the item on them and they will give you your reward (experience and/or money)

Delivery tasks are not as rewarding as kill tasks, but as they require no combat to complete, they can help those who are having a bit a trouble with the opening levels.

Kill Tasks

These are the most rewarding tasks. The money and experience you can get from these will help you get to level 20 in the shortest possible time without some high level friend power leveling you ( and sometimes faster than that ).

In order to get a kill task, you must /s task to all named guards until you find one who will give you tasks. Before SI, only ONE named guard would give you kill tasks per level. However, now there are TWO per level, one in SI and one in the old lands. Because of this, SI is the best place to find kill tasks as the majority of kill task guards will be in the main city of SI. This makes it rather easy to find the proper guard quickly.

When a guard gives you a kill task, he will also give you the general direction of the monster he wants to be killed. For example, Guard Steve will say,” Go kill a (insert mob name here), it can be found to the northeast.” While this IS helpful, the guards are sometimes wrong or they will send you to a spawn that is not the closest to your present location. This is why most kill taskers are players who are leveling an alt. They know where the spawns are and therefore can kill task rather quickly to the next level.

Once you find a guard that will give you a kill task, go kill the monster he has asked you to kill. Then simply return to the same guard and right click on him. You will receive about triple a yellow kill experience for each successful kill task. Then /s task to that guard again and keep going.

Not only will this help you financially, but it will also help you to learn the spawns as well.

You are limited to the number of kill tasks you can do per level by your level. This means a level 1 can only do one kill task, a level two can do two and a level 12 can do 12 kill tasks for that level.

Task failure: You can fail a task as well. This happens if the timer runs out or you die.

Each task is on a timer. You have two hours to complete the task or you fail. If you fail you will lose the task and will not be able to reclaim it. Meaning if you are level five and you fail your first task, you will only have four remaining for that level.

Once you level, the guard that was giving you tasks will not any longer. It is now time to find a new guard and continue the cycle.

The reward for kill tasks is great. I’ve found that in the low levels (5-10), I can get within two bubbles of level by kill tasking before the tasks run out. Above that (11-20) I can pretty much level off them.

Some tips:

-If the guard sends you to kill a green, kill two or three before returning to him. This will push you closer to leveling.

-In SI, the same name monsters can con anywhere from green to red at times. Always choose one that you KNOW you can kill. Don’t risk the higher level ones. Remember: if you die BEFORE claiming your reward, it is lost and you do NOT get that task back.

--If you’re close to level, don’t claim your reward till after you level. This will put the reward in the next level reward bracket and give you even MORE experience than the others of that level. Plus, it gives you a quick head start on the next level.
